There is a parking area at TG 098416, on the left side of the road as one approaches from the Holt direction. Various paths cross the area. It is advisable to wear trousers, with stout shoes or boots as the gorse can be prickly, and there is a danger from ticks, which can carry Lyme disease. Dogs are allowed, but would owners please keep them under close control and clear up after them. Dog owners should also note that adders are present on the Heath and can be active on warm days, even in winter. Do not light any fires or leave litter. Do not leave valuable belongings in your car. Please keep to the footpaths as there are still some deep wartime trenches and pits, covered by vegetation. Please do not disturb nesting birds or other vulnerable wildlife.
Kelling Heath is managed by two bodies of Trustees, with the assistance of Norfolk County Council. The boundary between Kelling and Salthouse parishes divides the site, with each portion being managed by its own body of Trustees. Conservation management is funded by DEFRA’s Countryside Stewardship scheme, Natural England, and by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the North Norfolk ‘Tomorrow’s Heathland Heritage’ project.
